If this happens, will things only get better or worse?

Things won't change at all. Unless you're a share-holder, in which case you won't be any more, but you'll get a nice buyout.
It would remove some of Hasbro's obligation to disclose accurate information, but it's not like they've made a habit of full disclosure anyway. |

If the Q&A is any example of their disclosure habits...they should be lawyers.

Their annual reports are pretty slim too. In past jobs I've spent a lot of time digging through annual reports, and Hasbro's are some of the vaguest I've ever seen. I'm guessing they do the minimum required by law. Going private just means they don't even have to publish them anymore.

My gut instinct is that this is bad. Private-equity firms usually flip the companies they buy. Between bank covenants and positioning for sale, they could become fiercely bottom line oriented. This could mean cost cutting in terms of quality and new tooling.

I was thinking the exact same thing Box just said.
This could be bad for collectors. Hey, there's always Galoob!!!

Didn't Hasbro buy Galoob and then wipe their dicks all over it?
Maybe Marvin Kenner will end up buying Hasbro. Poetic justice.

Yeah! And then we can go secure those Terminator film franchise rights, since those are up for grabs too!

It's likely that the equity firm would look to "flip" it, but I doubt they'd try to break it down into divisions or anything like that. as long as Hasbro remains intact, nobody is going to start micro-mangaing to the point of vetoing new tooling. They might try to renegotiate licensing rights, but budgets for individual lines would continue to be based on sales. Equity firms usually aren't interested in running the companies, just profiting from them.
