10/10 Bantha Skulls

First, he’s SA.  It’s almost standard these days, but it’s the first time ol’ Ben has gotten this treatment.  It’s perfect.

The sculpt is outstanding.  The folds in the robes are great, and there’s nifty texture to his pants.  His left hand is sculpted in his Jedi Mind Trick pose, which, although specific, is still pretty neat.  The face is incredible.  They nailed Alec Guinness’s likeness perfectly.  Great job on this, Hasbro!  One interesting bit about his head - the neck is actually separate from the body and the head.  It allows for slightly better poseability, which definitely adds personality to this figure.  Another nice tough.

Ben’s “skirt” is soft goods, which looks decent enough, and works well with the figure, since Ben has knees and ankles, and can sit in a landspeeder.  His jedi robes fit reasonably well.  The loose robes aren’t Hasbro’s strongpoint, but it’s good enough.  The hood is a bit large, but I’ve seen much worse.

Ben comes with a lit lightsaber.  He can grip the sabe with his left hand very well, and can be posed with a two-handed grip, which looks only very slightly odd since his right hand is sculpted as mentioned before.

A great accessory, making it’s first appearance in the line, is Obi-Wan’s table.  It is packed in 2 pieces and easily (but permanently) assembles.  The tabletop has some simple dishware sculpted on, as well as a peg, to which a small holographic Leia can attach neatly.  This is the second version of this mini holo, the first coming with the Comm-tech R2-D2 in 2000.  This setup really makes this figure worth more than the price of admission.  The figure itself is a winner.

Well, I’m giving this figure a perfect score.  It’s great.  Get it now.  Go.  I’ll wait....

8/10 Bantha Skulls

It’s about time. It’s been how many years since we’ve gotten a DECENT old Ben? This figure has the now standard articulation points, minus the chest. Awesome paint aps really bring this figure to life; especially on the near-perfect head sculpt. Now, after all that praise, what could lead me to only give it 8 out of 10?

Two words.

Soft goods.

I hate them. No matter how well done they are, I hate them with the white hot intensity of a thousand suns. Some people can make them look great, most times mine look like they’re in a freakin’ windstorm. The other thing that loses points with me is the pre-posed hand. Yes, I like the idea of having it in a ‘classic’ pose, but can’t we get some neutral hands here, and maybe an extra hand as a pack in? No? Crap.

Other than those two things, I’m happier than a pig in crap to own this guy, and can’t wait for the Episode I and II Obi-Wans to follow.
