Banthapedia article on Battle Droids
“The Droids were used to invade and occupy the peaceful fun loving planet, but were easily defeated by a lightsaber or a child.” - Banthapedia

Major Variants

*First Day of Issue foil stickers were added to assortments of The Legacy Collection Wave 1 and The Clone Wars Wave 1 figures.  Each figure exists with and without the sticker.  Also, the “Star Wars” logo on the front of the FDOI cards has a metallic finish.

Notes
*Unlike The Legacy Collection which has codes for the numbering system (BD, GH, SL), The Clone Wars line is numbered simply:  No. 1, No. 2, etc…

8/10 Bantha Skulls

Well, this is a good figure.

It is improved in almost every way from the realistically styled battle droid.

It has a good sculpt.  It’s animated-style, but to me, can pass for “realistic”.

His paint is simple, but good.  There is a random metallic paint application that makes it look beaten and worn, without the silly giant slash marks we’re used to.  The paint adds depth to this otherwise simple character.

He’s got good articulation.  Beyond that of the standard droid we’re now used to, it has shoulders that are more than swivel, but less than full ball joints.  He has a swivel waist, which is new.  His hips, again, are more than swivel, although perhaps even less ball jointed than the shoulders.  But it’s just enough range to allow you to widen the stance to help him stand.

The plastic is sturdier than recent battle droids in the main line.  Still soft, but not like a wet noodle.  He should hopefully last longer on the shelf than his predecessors.

The weapons fit in his hands well.  They look great, with a metallic wash.  The spring loaded cannon fires a strong shot.  The backpack plugs in sturdily to the hole in the back of the torso.

If this figure sported wrist, knee and ankle joints, and perhaps expanded on the attempt at ball jointed hips and shoulders, it would be a classic. In other words, I feel Hasbro is on the cusp of being able to offer us an SA Battle Droid.  I hope it’s on its way soon!

The key for me is that, as an improvement over the recent battle droids as well as sporting a sculpt that is passable for the realistic line, I would seriously consider picking more of these up for my collection.
