4/10 Bantha Skulls

Overall, this set is a big disappointment.  It is not up to what we should expect from an Evolutions set, with 3 premium figures.  With the exception of Padme in certain gowns, I expect near maximum articulation and extra attention to detail with these sets.  In the case of the Imperial Pilots, Hasbro falls short.

Clone Pilot (AOTC) - He looks pretty cool.  Supposedly this guy is part of the crew for the Space Whale gunships.  Alright then, if you say so (or did you?).  It would seem to go with the recent TAC ARC 170 Battle Pack, but the clone pilots in those packs were of the ROTS variety.  In any case, this guy is probably the best in this trio.  He has good articulation, although he lacks the waist joint, which is messed up considering it’s an evo figure.  His helmet fits okay, and his face is of the “young” Jango variety.  The blaster fits in his hand well, and the helmet fits his head well.

Clone Pilot (ROTS) - This guy was on his way to blowing out his ROTS era ancestor.  He’s got a removeble helmet, with detachable hoses/chestpiece.  His shoulders and elbows are ball jointed, vs. the swivels of the previous one.  His outfit has a nifty paint wash that brings out the folds moreso than previously.  BUT - he is missing the Imperial (or even Republic) insignia on his shoulders, and he STILL does not have ankle joints, which was a major knock on the original.  Not good.  One note, the helmet markings would indicate that this is a random pilot.  The reference pic above has such a pilot sitting behind “Oddball” in the cockpit of an ARC-170.

Biggs Darklighter (TIE Pilot) - Worst figure of the bunch, which is too bad.  The body sculpt is a good one.  A big minus is that he is missing ankle joints!  His pistol, which may or may not be accurate to the comic in which he is depicted, is a strange one, and isn’t the standard blaster we are used to.  It is large, and although he has a holster, it looks a bit silly.  The helmet his VERY large.  and doesn’t cover his entire head.  You can see his hair in the back, and when you look through the face opening, you can see the space behind him.  The other pilot helmets fit much more snugly.  Finally, the biggest error in the whole set:  Biggs is missing his helmet visor.  Any true Star Wars fan knows that TIE Fighters have no life support environment in the cockpit, so an open helmet is nonsense.  Besides being ridiculous, it also looks terrible, so there’s no getting around this.

The set is not a good one.  It has its strong points, but lack of full articulation, a step back or two, and a few glaring errors ruin this set.  It could have been a real winner pretty easily.
