Major Variants
*none reported

Notes
* The only new character in this set is R5-M2.
* Han’s goggles are actually glued into the slots over his face, so technically they are not an accessory.
* K-3PO is “clean” this time around, as his previous plastic incarnation came with battle damage on his chest.

7/10 Bantha Skulls

Decent pack.  It’s a good set if you don’t have the figures from this scene.  For the most part, these are repacks/repaints, with only R5-M2 as an all new character.

Chewbacca and Han are both excellent figures, problem is you probably have them already.  The Chewbacca has the barest hint of a snowy powder on him to pass as “Hoth Chewie” but it’s so faint you almost don’t even realize it.  As such, it’s barely a repaint, and can almost just be a repack.  This may or may not be a good thing, as the lack of distinct snow deco would make this a more versatile figure for display, but I think it misses the point.  In any case, this is a very good figure of Chewbacca.

Han is very good, but we just saw a nearly identical figure in the Wal*Mart exclusive Droid Factory line (Pre-Legacy Collection).  The biggest differences are that the binocular strap is a different color, and, strangely, the goggles are actually glued onto the face!  I didn’t realize this until after I pried them off his face.  In essence, you can’t really count the goggles as an accessory, and that makes this figure LESS desirable than the Droid Factory release.  Since many people say they have trouble finding Wal*Mart exclusives, this is a good opportunity to get this figure.

The Probot is the same as the POTF2 release, although, in my opinion it has superior paint deco.  It’s much more metallic looking.  It has some weathering as well as snow splatter on it.  The spring loaded weapon fires pretty well.  Nothing too exciting, but unless you subscribe to theory that says Hasbro is milking this old mold just before releasing a better one, this is worth picking up if you want a Probot in your collection.

The K-3PO differs from it’s prior Hasbro incarnation in that he is depicted “pre-battle damage”.  Gone is the odd blue splotch on his chest.  Perhaps more importantly, he has knee joints, following the new trend with protocol droids.

Finally, R5-M2, an astromech belonging to Shawn Valdez, is the only new character, which is why I like him the best.  He looks good, and will fill out your Hoth hangar diorama nicely.  The droids are definitely a nod to collectors in what otherwise would be a more kid-friendly pack.

Overall, a decent set - not much new, but a good effort.
