So this is a complete nod to collectors. It’s a neat homage to the Kenner line as well as a neat piece to celebrate the iconic Bounty Hunter scene in ESB.
The (real) Zuckuss figure is a repaint of the previous one from the Legacy Collection. It’s painted to resemble the original Kenner figure, which was mostly tan, just like the Sandpeople figures. The skirt is made of a thick pleathery material, also reminsicent of the vintage figure. He comes with a gun, that he grips in both hands so he can be posed like the movie. He also has a removeable gas mask/back pack dealy.
The (real) 4-LOM is a repaint of the rescent figures, also painted in simple colors to resemble the vintage figure. He comes with a rifle, and is also able to be posed just like the movie.
The attraction, if you were so inclined, of this set is the packaging. An attractive glossy sleeve with both cardback depicted keeps the package together. The figures are in a folding window box, which closes like a book and seals shut with small bits of velcro. Each figure is stored behind the windows in vintage-style packing. It is worth noting that the cardbacks are of the silver foil “chase” variety, although this will not be available in the non-foil version.
The main showcase is the fact that Hasbro deliberately swapped the names of the characters on their cardbacks, to bring us back to the days when we were kids and bought the zuckuss droid and the 4-LOM bug alien. We didn’t know any better than Kenner. It took years before fans started to come around to the fact that the characters were mistakenly given each other’s intended names. Even today, there are old-timey collectors who still refer to the characters by their incorrect Kenner names, just like I keep calling that NFL team in Arizona the “St. Louis Cardinals”. Screw ‘em. That’s how I roll.
Anyway, it’s a neat gimmick. If you’re not a hardcore collector, completist, or fan of kitschy nostalgia, you can pass on this and get more screen accurate figures at regular retail. But it is defnitely a neat idea, and the packaging is pretty impressive.
Thank you to Hunter PR for providing this set for us to review!
