Editor’s Note: This review has been updated with our second look at TVC…

I’m not sure we need to dig too deep into this review. The body is from the Wes Jason Evolutions figure which is a definitive Snowspeeder pilot body. The leg straps may have been borrowed form the Luke Snowspeeder figure from the 2009 ESB wave. The head is obviously new. As I don’t really have a mental picture for what John Morton looks like, I have to assume the head sculpt is perfect. The inclusion of the BlasTech A280 rifle is a nice bonus. I quickly transferred it to one of my many Hoth Rebel Troopers who sadly did not come with one. This figure is not being carried forward into the wave 1 revision case, so if you have any inclination to pick this figure up (and you should), don’t pass it by too many times.

Dack “Dak” Ralter was released in the first wave of TVC, and it was the first time the character was released on a basic card. It’s only previous release was as a pack in with Luke’s Snowspeeder in the POTJ line. At that time, that was a fantastic set. While the vehicle still passes today’s standards, the Dack Figure is officially terrible. So this resculpt is a welcome and successful attempt by Hasbro. As Chris states in the original review, the figure is essentially the definitive Rebel Hoth pilot. There’s really nothing to complain about this excellently sculpted figure even today. The paint applications may not be perfect, but they are good enough. Dack is sculpted with a floating trigger finger which interacts nicely with both his blaster and his rifle. Dack has a nice, expressive face, although his expression looks more angry than optimistic. My one complaint is that the helmet is too loose. It kind of wobbles around on his head, and looks a bit goofy over his face. Otherwise, it’s darn near perfect.
Verdict: No Action
For some reason, this figure was re-release in the first phase (orange) of The Black Series. The most notable change there was the adjusted spelling of the character’s name from “Dack” to “Dak.” Otherwise, it’s basically a repack. The figure carries a value that can barely be classified as modest, so this definitive Dack “Dak” Ralter figure is probably fine left alone. Unless Hasbro does some kind of major Khetanna-like project for Hoth, this may be the only Dak, I mean Dack, you’ll ever need.
Verdict Guide:
Re-sculpt = The figure is not definitive, and a new version should be developed.
Re-issue = This version is definitive (or close enough), and shows sufficient secondary market demand to warrant a straight repack.
No Action = This release does not require new attention.
