Nomadscout’s Star Wars Room - Update 3

Posted by Bret on 03/23/14 at 06:30 PM Category: Special Report

The next installment in this very exciting Banthaskull Special Report provides a rough blueprint of basement space.

(For reference, photos of the basement, were posted in the first installment, here )

North Room:

-Approximately 25 linear feet of wall space along the north, east, and south walls, presumably for shelving to display most of the figures and set up movie scenes.
-I will put a 7 foot table, with one end joining Wall C, so that you could stand in the middle the room and turn to see the entire OT unfold.
-Most of the left side of the room is currently accounted for (desk, utility closets, staircase, and an area for my 501st focus collection.
-This room is completely finished, with tile floor.

South Room:

-Approximately 35 linear feet of wall space along the north, east, and south walls, as well as along the backside of some bookcases which currently separates the Star Wars portion from the laundry area.
-I estimate I have about an 8’ x 7’ space to put a table (or 2 tables) in the middle of room, for battle scenes as above.
-Most of the left side of the room is currently accounted for by the laundry area.  The northeast corner of this room has the hot water heater, currently exposed.  I left plenty of space around it, as depicted in the diagram.
-This room has a tile floor, but exposed ceilings and cement walls.  I may or may not try to finish this off at some point with drywall.

The ceiling height is a bit uneven across the entire basement, but it is roughly 6’ 5”, give or take.

The Plan:

The pictures from the previous update show my collection as it was in late 2005.  I estimate that I’d be able to fit just about all of that in the North Room, but I’m going to spread it out a bit.  I will still need to leave enough space for the amount of junk I’ve purchased since 2005, as sequel trilogy stuff.  Otherwise, I’ll have to move again.

I am deciding on where to go from here.  The first draft of my plan is to shelve out all the wall spaces with relatively inexpensive rubbermaid type utility shelving.  The kind with the vertical brackets that mount to the walls, and allow for adjustable shelf “arms” to hook in.  Then I’d put some sort of solid shelving all around the rooms…kind of like what this guy has in the second pic below.  The walls in my basement are white, but I can paint the walls, the ceiling, whatever color I want.

The basic idea is straightforward:  adjustable shelves around the perimeter, with tables for additional battles, and maybe hanging some ships from the ceiling.

I am moving quickly on setting up the north room for the OT, however, I’m very open to input if anyone has suggestions!
